Washington, DC 20024

The Climate Action Reserve is dedicated to the development of high quality, standardized protocols for greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction projects. Tentatively, we envision starting our industrial gas protocol development process with the development of protocols for projects that destroy or manage the release of refrigerants (HFCs) and ozone depleting substances (ODSs), and manage N2O emissions at nitric acid plants. At the scoping meeting, we will explore issues around developing accounting methods and eligibility criteria for other possible industrial gas projects as well, including projects that address SF6, HFCs, PFCs, NF3 and additional N2O emission sources. The new protocols will be used to register projects with the Climate Action Reserve.

We encourage all interested stakeholders to join us, including representatives and experts from:

Industrial refrigerant end-use, reclamation, and recycling industry

Nitric acid plant industry

Other high-GWP gas industry experts and representatives

Local, state and federal agencies involved with industrial pollutants, high GWP gases, and ODS management

Environmental advocacy organizations

Project developer organizations

Project verification bodies

Academia

If you plan on attending, please RSVP to policy@climateactionreserve.org by May 11, 2009. This meeting will also have conference call capability, so please note whether you will be attending in person or participating via conference call when you RSVP. An agenda will be provided to all attendees prior to the meeting.

We have reserved a block of rooms at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel for this event. Be sure to mention that you are attending the Climate Action Reserve meeting in order to get the special room rate of $209. Rooms need to be booked by May 11 to get this rate.

If you have questions about the scoping meeting or the protocol development process, please contact Derek Markolf at (213) 542-0280 or derek@climateactionreserve.org.

The Climate Action Reserve has recently released a ground-breaking new protocol for calculating the carbon reductions from urban forestry and is now pleased to offer this webinar specifically focused on developing urban forestry projects.

The Climate Action Reserve ensures the environmental integrity of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction projects and instills confidence and credibility in the U.S. carbon market. It does this by establishing respected reduction project protocols, registering GHG reduction projects, and tracking the transaction of carbon credits in a transparent, publicly-accessible system. The Climate Action Reserve has earned recognition as one of the most highly valued offset registries in the U.S., and now its reach has expanded to the global carbon offset market.

Topics will include:

An overview of the Reserve

How protocols are developed

A detailed look at the Urban Forestry protocol

Opening an account

Registering projects

Verification

Trading

This webinar is designed for cities, universities, utilities and other organizations undertaking urban forestry programs. It is free and open to all. The presentation will last approximately one hour with a 30 minute Q&A session following.

After registering, all attendees will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. For more information about this webinar or the Climate Action Reserve, please contact Max DuBuisson at max@climateactionreserve.org.
