The Livestock Project Protocol revision (U.S. Version 3.0) is now available for public review and comment. The changes proposed below also apply to the Livestock Project Protocol available for use in Mexico (Mexico Version 2.0). Spanish translations of the proposed changes are available upon request.

The protocol underwent minor edits and clarifications as well as the following significant revisions:

• Updated guidance and presentation of GHG Assessment Boundary to be consistent with current Reserve protocol standards (Section 4). The presentation and explanation of the Livestock Project Protocol’s GHG Assessment Boundary was out-of-date. Figure 4.1 and Table 4.1 have been replaced, which now more clearly lay out the SSRs that are required to be accounted for and provide additional detail on why SSRs are included or excluded.
• New options for reporting period and verification cycle to reduce verification costs (Section 7). In an effort to make the program more accessible to livestock operations of all sizes, two different options to reduce livestock project verification costs were developed. The Reserve believes that these options uphold the environmental integrity of the credits created by livestock projects. Please see the Verification Options Memo below for additional background on how and why these options were developed.
• New verification guidance section to be consistent with current Reserve protocol standards (Section 8). In recent protocols, the Reserve has presented reporting and verification guidance in a single document, rather than in two separate protocols as in the current livestock protocols. Adding this section brings the Livestock Project Protocol in line with this new standard. The section also provides improved guidance on verifying livestock projects and removes general verification guidance, which is now presented in the Verification Program Manual.
