How It Works

Protocols In Progress

The following protocol is currently being developed by the Climate Action Reserve:

Mexico Forest Project Protocol

The Reserve will develop a Forest Project Protocol for use throughout Mexico. It will be adapted from the U.S. version of the Forest Project Protocol and include guidance for three project types: Reforestation, Avoided Deforestation (Avoided Conversion), and Sustainable Forest Management (Improved Forest Management). Development of all three project types will be conducted contemporaneously, with initial efforts focused on areas of shared application.

Protocol Development Process

The Climate Action Reserve is committed to developing offset project protocols in an open, transparent and consensus-based process. We have pioneered a successful multi-stakeholder approach to developing protocols. The approach promotes broad participation and has built a reputation for regulatory-quality protocols that business, government and environmental communities all stand behind.

To learn more about the protocol development process, please download the Reserve’s Program Manual.
