The Climate Action Reserve has developed an agriculture sector U.S. Nitrogen Management Protocol to provide guidance on how to quantify, monitor, and verify greenhouse gas emission reductions from improving nitrogen use efficiency in crop production. The protocol was first adopted by the Reserve Board in June 2012.

|NMQuanTool v2.0||The Reserve has developed a Nitrogen Management Quantification Tool to assist with the quantification of projects using the U.S. Nitrogen Management Protocol. Use of the tool is mandatory for all projects. Request a copy from [email protected].||Version 2.1|
|Handbook for Nitrogen Management Project Development v2.0a (March 2019)||The Handbook is a plain-language companion document to assist users of the NMP with project initiation, management and verification. This document will be updated periodically by Reserve staff.||Version 2.1|
|Nitrogen Management Monitoring Plan/Report Template (April 2021)||This document is intended to assist project developers in organizing project data, summarizing key aspects of a project, and to help facilitate verification. It is created at the beginning of a project, and updated over time as conditions change.||Version 2.1|
Project Registration Documents
|Nitrogen Management Project Submittal Form||A proposal to undertake a nitrogen management project.||Project Submittal||Public|
|List of Enrolled Fields||Spreadsheet in *.csv file format that contains the serial number, county, state, and names of the project participants for each field enrolled in the project. The field serial number is determined by the following algorithm: first letter of the county – latitude of the most NW point of the field – longitude of the most NW point of the field – acreage of the field. (Example: B-39.6123-121.5332-76 would be a 76-acre field in Butte County, CA.) The List of Enrolled Fields must be up-to-date prior to the commencement of verification services.||Project Submittal||Private|
