U.S Landfill Protocol

The Landfill Protocol provides guidance to quantify, report, and verify GHG emission reductions associated with installing a landfill gas collection and destruction system at landfill operations. The protocol was first adopted by the Reserve Board in November 2007.

Pre-Existing Landfill System Diagram A pre-existing landfill system diagram is only required if there is a pre-existing, active landfill gas collection and destruction system at the project site. Project Submittal Public
Project System Diagram A project diagram is required for non-sequestration projects. See the example landfill diagram for recommended format and content. Verification Private
Landfill Project Sample Monitoring Report – ZCRP This report is required for projects that have elected to take a zero-credit reporting period under the Landfill Project Protocol. Please refer to Section 3.4.6 of the Reserve Offset Program Manual for when and how the report shall be submitted. Verification Private
Landfill Project Sample Monitoring Report – Interim Reporting Period This report is required for projects that have elected to conduct verification for two reporting periods under the Landfill Project Protocol. Monitoring Reports that cover the first reporting period of a two-year verification period must be submitted no later than six months following the end of the relevant reporting period.
