Mexico Halocarbon Protocol Development

(Para ver la página en Español, por favor cambie las opciones de idioma en la parte superior del sitio web)

The Mexico Halocarbon Protocol was adapted from the Reserve’s Mexico ODS Protocol Version 1.0. Because the new eligible gases are not ODS, the protocol’s name was modified to use a title that encompasses all eligible refrigerants. Eligible refrigerants include Chlorofluorcarbon-11 (CFC-11), CFC-12, CFC-113, CFC-114, Hydrochlorofluorocarbon-22 (HCFC-22), Hydrofluorocarbon-32 (HFC-32), HFC-125, HFC-134a, and HFC-143a. Eligible HCFC and HFC sources include stockpiles recovered before protocol adoption, refrigerant recovered from end-of-life equipment or retrofitted equipment, and leftover virgin refrigerant from recharge cylinders. Project developers may use default baseline scenarios and leak rates that simplify monitoring, reporting, and verification.

Protocol Scoping

The Mexico ODS Protocol underwent a public scoping process to evaluate the feasibility of adding new eligible refrigerants. The scoping paper for the assessment of potentially eligible ODS is available for review below:

The Reserve hosted a public scoping webinar on December 6, 2019 to discuss the potential update with interested stakeholders.
